Teuro, a pun on the German word for expensive, teuer, and related to price increases related to conversion to the euro currency, was voted Germany’s word of the year. Readers of SFGate.com voted nukular as word of the year. Members of the American Dialect Society voted weapons of mass destruction as word of the year. Jennifer Mastsroianni, food writer for the Canton Repository, named carmelized as the food-related word of the year.
