Purple monkey dishwasher
Props to Matt Zoller Seitz for feeling free to use a Simpsonsism in the pages of the New York Times without explaining it:
To acquire the cleverly named Book of Secrets, Ben plots to kidnap the current president…and blah, blah, blah purple monkey dishwasher.
It’s basically another way of saying “blah, blah, blah,” so he’s a bit redundant. See the reference to the appropriate Simpsons episode.
Don’t get it. I read the Simpsons reference, and the “purple monkey dishwasher” phase comes from a game of telephone that Bart uses to spread a rumor amongst striking teachers—the phrase being the nonsense introduced by the game. How does that make it mean “blah, blah, blah”?

That’s how it was used on the show, but now it is used in the same way that “blah blah blah” or “yadda yadda yadda” is used--a nonsense phrase to tack onto the end of something that’s not really worth explaining.
