Oopsie baby, taco meat hair

taco meat hair n. the tight, dark curly hair of a black person. Often used self-referentially and between black people themselves.

I am a 35 year old black woman and I have NEVER heard anyone I know use this word to describe their hair. Is this term regional?

Thembi, on whose site I originally found the expression, left a comment talking about how she knows and uses the term. She describes it as being chemically treated hair, but I see uses elsewhere that don’t seem to indicate that.
