Dictionary definition of “tip drill”

tip drill

n. an unattractive person, male or female, esp. one who is used for sex or money. Subjects: , , , ,
Etymological Note: There are two supposed etymologies circulating. Neither can be verified. One says tip drill refers to a practice routine by the same name in basketball or football, in which the ball is quickly passed, bounced, or rebounded from player to player. The other says it refers to the power tool of the same name, which has a twisted head but a smooth shaft or body. The latter may be influenced by tool, a derogatory name for someone who is dense, easily taken advantage of, or otherwise operating at a sub-par capacity.

[Tipdrill Remix]”: I said it must be ya ass cause it ain’t ya face/I need a tip drill, I need a tip drill…It must be ya money, cause it ain’t ya face/You a tip drill, nigga you a tip drill. 2004 [Dr. Jo Koster’s WRIT 102 Class] @ Winthrop Univ. Winthrop Slang Dictionary Spring 2004 (Rock Hill, S.C.): tip drill A girl or boy that is unattractive from the neck up but is good enough to have sexual intercourse with. Used by African Americans and appropriated by some whites. 2004 [GullyNotRude] FromTheHeart (May 11) “This not beef this Turkey”: My dumb as friend told ugly boy I like him I think I’m like hell the fuck naw, so I wrote ugly a letter telling his dumb ass why I’m looking at him and hes not cute to me. He took it to the heart, hey who could blame him, I called him a TIP DRILL. 2004 Ytasha Womack Chicago Tribune (May 26) “The beat goes on”: “If you take offense, it’s like you’re saying you are a tip drill,” a street term for a woman in whom men only have a sexual interest.
Reader comments:

I cannot substantiate this, but I thought the term originated in basketball.

It’s a warm-up exercise ("drill"). Players form a line, and take turns running up and touching ("tip") the backboard.

Hence, a “tip drill” is when many people take turns having intercourse with one person.

It can also be used to describe the person who is being shared.
