D4: In only his second full season in the majors, with a better concept of location and selection but still basically what pitching coach Bud Black calls “full gorilla” on every pitch, Rodriguez has set a club record for strikeouts by a reliever. 2005 Elliott Teaford Daily Breeze (Torrange, California) (Aug. 5) “Angels notebook: Washburn placed on the 15-day DL”: “He felt better, but it’s not at a level where we can just turn him loose on Saturday,” Manager Mike Scioscia said of Washburn, who threw off a bullpen mound and said he felt only slight discomfort while going “full gorilla,” as he termed it.
