n. a forceful discharge of nasal mucus onto the ground. Also farmer’s blow. Subjects: , , ,
Citations: 1993 [Alice Bertelson] Usenet: misc.kids (Mar. 30) “Re: blowing your nose”: My hubby has even taught Matthew the “Farmer Blow” that only Men seem to have enough back pressure to do—YUK! 2001 Geoffrey Gray Village Voice (Feb. 13) “Romancing the stash” vol. 46, no. 6, p. 33: My nose is really running now, in embarrassing amounts. When I excuse myself from the group for a hefty farmer blow, I see four trees of the same girth. 2003 Richard Chin St. Paul Pioneer Press (Minnesota) (Jan. 5) “On the Run” p. 1F: Other wintertime athletes, however, are devoted to another form of nose maintenance known variously as the farmer blow, the snot rocket or snagging. Here’s how: Press your finger on one side of the nose, blocking off a nostril, and blow forcefully out the other nostril. Repeat on the opposite side. Done correctly, you expel viscous booger wads harmlessly into the air and out onto the trail. 2004 Peter Harriman (Associated Press) (Feb. 13) “Injuries don’t faze tough-as-metal South Dakotan”: “I was in 4-H and FFA, a total farm girl. That helped in the Army, kind of a roughneck thing,” she says and launches into a description about a friend in her military unit, “the prissiest thing you’d ever want to see.” “I taught her how to spit, do the farmer blow,” she says and mimics blowing her nose with her fingers. 2004 [glassbottle11] Miss Laura’s Journal (Wisconsin) (Mar. 15) “Oohhh, this could be messy, overlook this supposed crime”: He it a couple of times, blowing it out with the “farmer’s blow” method several times before I tried it myself. *enter foolish act here* I stuck the peanut not half way up my nose, but ALL the way up my nose.…I pushed, pulled, and tried to “farmer blow” it out, but I just couldn’t. 2006 [Sharon] Pioneer Press (St. Paul, Minnesota) (Dec. 1) “From collie to rug to chickadee to nest: It’s nature’s way!”: What andiami of Newport calls a “farmer blow,” my family refers to as a “snot rocket.”

Word suggestion:

Cape Breton place mat - made from a Tim Horton’s single dognut paper bag by ripping it down the seam, folding it open, and lying it flat on the table to eat the dognut.  Cape Breton is an area on the east coast of Canada well known for being a little nuts, such that if you were to mention what this is, they’d just shrug like it was an every day normal thing.

For an authentic description, it’s best to contact a certifiable ‘Caper’ such as my friend, Paul Gouthro (pronounced ‘Guth-roe’) at .
