1986 Heather Mallick Toronto Star (Can.) (June 10) “Hospital marks 50 years Cetnre rehabilitates severely injured patients” p. N3: We see young people with multiple fractures, crushed limbs and degloving injuries where skin has been pulled off the leg. 1989 James A. Dosman Principles of Health and Safety in Agriculture (Oct. 31) p. 359: There are three types of degloving injuries that may occur as the result of farm machinery accidents. These are (1) complete anatomical degloving in which the skin is actually removed from the limb, (2) concealed degloving in which the underlying attachment of the skin is avulsed from the soft tissue, but there is no disruption in the skin itself; and (3) a combination of the anatomical and concealed varieties. 1993 Jonathan Greenberg Handbook of Head and Spine Trauma (Mar. 15) p. 318: The degloved scalp, which remains viable despite the large area of evulsion, is reapproximated with a combination of monofilament or stainless steel wire sutures. 1993 Gale Scott Newday (Long Island, N.Y.) (June 1) “Terror Ride Car drags bicyclist; crowd corners driver” p. 3: Donohue…now has scalp cuts down to his skull and skin torn from parts of his body in what doctors call a “de-gloving injury,” meaning his skin came off like stripping off a tight glove. 2004 Trisha Greenhalgh Accountancy (U.K.) (Oct. 12) “Health—Face Or Fiction?” p. 120: The only practice they had had at reconnecting an entire face was in two unfortunate individuals who had had traumatic de-gloving of the entire face. 2005 Toni Baker @ Medical College of Georgia MCG Science/Medical News (Oct. 5) “Large Sinus Tumors Can Be Removed Endoscopically, Study Finds”: Open procedures involve incisions made along the nose or under the lip, lifting the face in a technique called facial degloving, and moving bone—potentially the upper jaw and cheekbone—and sometimes brain out of the way.

Deglove is one of the worst injuries I deal with in my Los Angeles personal injury practice and I highly suggest if this happens to you that you hire a neuro specialist. If you cant afford one hire a lawyer and find a specialist who works on a lien.
