yo-yo financing n. The consumer signed a financing contract with the dealer without fully understanding the terms, or the contract was incomplete or not in writing. The customer assumes the credit deal is finalized and the car is theirs. The auto dealer delivers the vehicle “on the spot” and permits the customer to take possession of the car. Some weeks or even months later, the dealer contacts the customer to advise them that their financing plan was not approved and they must agree to new financing—at less favorable terms—or return the car. This practice is called “yo-yo” financing. The dealer stands accused of not having properly disclosed the credit deal he originally sold to the customer was conditional on the approval of the application. yo-yo sale n. The dealership was cruising—and potentially crossing—a line drawn by the state’s bushing law. Bushing, believed to be a shortened version of bushwhacking, is when dealers attempt to convince consumers they must agree to new terms of an old deal. The defendants use a technique called “yo-yoing,” wherein one bulldozer sits on a level surface at the top of the hillside.…and the other bulldozer which pushes the tress and brush down the steep hillside is connected by a wire rope to the rear winch assembly of the dozer sitting at the top. The winch is used then to anchor the lower dozer and to assist in pulling it up the hillside after it makes passes to push the trees and brush down the steep hillside. yo-yoing n. In the wake of a controversy that engulfed the Derby this fall, two respected Island organizations have asked the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries (DMF) to ban a fishing method known as yo-yoing…a fishing method that involves bouncing a baitfish weighted with lead. In many cases a yo-yo rig is created when a lead weight is inserted in a baitfish such as menhaden. A wood or metal skewer or wire is inserted in the fish to maintain the baitfish’s shape.
