Comments:
The term Petrocollapse is most used on the internet in reference to the Petrocollapse Conference which has occured in NY and elsewhere, and in reference to the writtings of Jan Lundberg (http://www.culturechange.org).

I'm not sure if Jan Lundberg had coined the term, but he certainly makes many references to it in his very interesting writtings.

In this context, Petrocollapse refers to the societal collapse (economic collapse and general upheaval) that will occur because of civilization's petroleum demand overshooting the rate of extraction.

Keep in mind that we're interested in terms that are not well-covered in mainstream dictionaries, or not covered at all. A mass of unexamined Google hits counts for nothing, but an early use of the term you've found in a book or periodical is very useful. A term does not have to be new to be recorded here, it merely needs to be worthy of more attention.
