Quotation: In many ways Salinas is a city divided by culture, color and socio-economic levels. I know because I’ve lived in places that didn’t have all these issues. Not only that, but the county is also divided by ideologies. It’s what Jim Conway, city museum coordinator in Monterey, refers to as “The Lettuce Curtain.” There’s The Valley, and then there’s The Peninsula. It seems like a little too much of “us and them” going on at all levels.
