Quotation: AFP agent Mark Creighton told the court “cuckoo smurfing” was when criminals replaced legitimate money intended for legal transfer into Australian bank accounts with the proceeds of crime. The original funds are then used overseas. The court heard that Tanesh Dias, 34, collected money from members of the criminal syndicate and deposited it in the bank accounts of people who were expecting an international money transfer.
