Catchword for “club theory”
Catchword: club theory
Part of speechn.
Quotation: The theoretical basis of the idea that the EU faces problems of “absorption capacity” is borrowed from what is known as “club theory.” This focuses on the difficulties any large club has in making decisions and conducting common policies. As the club increases in size, so the argument runs, the more difficulties arise and the more the benefits of club membership become diluted.

Comments:
The EU has had an ongoing debate about "deepening" versus "widening", and it's a serious talk about what exactly it is that various national givernments really do want. I'll take a WAG that "club theory" is an attempt to completely moronicize this debate.

Keep in mind that we're interested in terms that are not well-covered in mainstream dictionaries, or not covered at all. A mass of unexamined Google hits counts for nothing, but an early use of the term you've found in a book or periodical is very useful. A term does not have to be new to be recorded here, it merely needs to be worthy of more attention.
